The primary objective of the SMVEC – Centre of Legal Education Programme is to develop and impart widespread and interdisciplinary legal education. Through legal education, we aim to promote legal and ethical values and endorse the rule of law and the objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India. We shall strive to give facets of legal education for building the capability of the budding lawyers. Our student will not only be shaped as transforming agents, as the country achieves its social and developmental goals, but will also be equipped to address the imperatives of the new millennium and uphold the Constitution of India.

Dean Message
Dr Vincent Arputhom is the Dean for the Centre of Legal Education at ‘Sri Manakula Vinayar Engineering College.’ He completed his Ph.D. in 2014 from the Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University. He was a gold medalist in Master of Laws from the Kerala University (1981-1983) and did his Bachelor of Laws from the Madurai Kamaraj University (1977-1980). He has a commendable experience of more than 35 years in Legal Education and college administration. Dr Vincent has been an esteemed Senior Research Fellow at Kochin University, Kerala from 1984 onwards and then went ahead with his career as a lecturer at the Andhra Christian Law College, Guntoor till 1990. Afterwards through the UPSC selection, he was appointed as an Associate Professor at the Dr Ambedkar Government Law College, Pondicherry up to 2015. In 2015, Dr Vincent was promoted to the post of Principal at the same institute and retired from service in the year 2019.
Throughout his esteemed career he was closely associated in organizing more than 25 All-India Moot Court competitions, seminars, workshops, and colloquiums. He also organized the first of its kind in India, a National Moot Court competition exclusively for the women students.
He has authored 7 Tamil and 7 English language legal books which are highly popular and academically trusted amongst the law students of India. He is a recipient of the prestigious award “Satta Nool Sirpi” awarded by the ‘Bangalore Tamil Sangam’ for recognition of his contribution towards the development of “Satta Tamil” by authoring 7 Tamil law books. He was also the Chairman of the Board of Studies in Law (UG & PG) at Pondicherry University and held membership of the Academic Council of Pondicherry University and Tamil Nadu Law University.

The centre of legal education is one of the wings of SMVEC Puducherry. It offers two programmes at present. One is B.A.LL.B five years and the other one is the LL.B. three years degree programme. Each class consists of 60 students. It is affiliated to the Pondicherry university.
Students enjoy world class academic infrastructure, as well as professional level sports facilities.The course curriculum is designed perfectly in par with national standards. The college also provides the internship felicities for the students as a part of curriculum.
The faculty members are well experienced and are almost with Ph.d Qualification. They train the students to learn theoretically as well as practically to enrich their knowledge.We have hostels with good infrastructure and all necessary facilities. The food is too delicious. Well stocked library. Moot court hall with full court setup. Full furnished class rooms etc.
